The candidates who filed their nomination papers included Pawan Kumar Bansal of the Indian National Congress and Haffiz Anwar-ul-Haq from the RJD and two independent candidates namely Gurcharan Singh Giani and Des Raj.
Bansal was first to file the nomination papers.
