About Chandigarh Branch of Chartered Accountants Election Process

Inside the Election Process of the Chandigarh Branch of Chartered Accountants

The Chandigarh Branch of the Institute of Chartered Accountants of India (ICAI) plays a pivotal role in supporting over 1,000 registered chartered accountants in the region. This branch serves as a professional hub, offering networking, continuing education, and representation for members practicing in and around Chandigarh.

Triennial Elections and Leadership Structure

The ICAI branch elections are held every three years, with the primary goal of electing eight executive committee members who will oversee the branch’s functioning and programs for the upcoming term. From among these eight elected members, four key office bearers are chosen internally:

  • Chairman
  • Vice Chairman
  • Secretary
  • Treasurer

These positions form the core leadership responsible for setting the agenda, organizing seminars and workshops, and representing the branch at regional and national ICAI events.

Voting Rights and Procedure

Each eligible member of the branch is entitled to cast eight preferential votes during the election. This voting system enables members to rank up to eight candidates based on their preferences, providing a democratic and inclusive approach to leadership selection.

Voting is conducted in person at the Chandigarh ICAI Branch office, located in Sector 35, a central and accessible location for members across the Tricity area.

Upcoming Election Timeline

The next election cycle is anticipated to take place in February 2010, continuing the tradition of structured governance and professional representation within the Chandigarh CA community. As the election approaches, several candidates are expected to enter the race, with campaigns focusing on professional development initiatives, improved member engagement, and strengthening ties with ICAI headquarters.
