What were the main reasons for the low voter turnout

The low voter turnout in the Chandigarh Club elections, which saw only 44% of eligible members casting their votes, can be attributed to several key factors:

  1. Long Wait Times and Traffic Chaos: Many senior citizens reported difficulties in voting due to long queues and significant traffic issues outside the club. This logistical challenge discouraged some members from participating in the election process.
  2. Lack of Engagement: The elections were held after an eight-year gap, which may have contributed to disconnection among members. The prolonged period without elections might have led to apathy regarding the importance of voting.
  3. Chaotic Atmosphere: The election day was marked by confrontations and verbal altercations among candidates and their supporters, which could have further deterred members from voting. Such chaotic scenes may have created an uncomfortable environment for potential voters.
  4. Voter Fatigue: A broader trend of voter fatigue affects participation in various elections, including club elections. Continuous campaigning and controversies surrounding candidates can lead to disillusionment among voters, making them less likely to engage.
